Organizational Development
Using skills honed through his work for some of the country’s leading medical and health-related organizations—along with skills utilized in his private counseling practice—Tom provides consulting services in the areas of strategic planning, organizational development, governance, leadership training, and team-building.
Organizations are complex social systems that are in a continual process of change. If the organization is not adapting and growing, it is stagnating. Tom's consulting work is primarily focused on helping not-for-profits manage the process of change and adaptation in a positive, effective manner. Among the types of services he provides in this regard are the following:
- Helping the organization assess its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.
- Facilitating a process to clarify the organization’s mission and objectives, identify effective strategies for meeting its goals, and establish criteria for evaluating organizational performance.
- Conducting qualitative research, including interviews and focus groups, to identify issues and challenges that may be impeding organizational effectiveness.
- Providing executive coaching, leadership training, and team-building services in an effort to build successful and rewarding working relationships (internally and externally).
Overall, his goal is to increase the effectiveness of the organization, while providing an environment that is enriching to its staff and leaders. More specific goals include:
- Enhancing organizational decision-making processes.
- Improving communication within and outside the organization.
- Managing conflict in a healthy, constructive manner.
- Empowering employees through delegation of responsibility and control.
