College-Career Planning
Few decisions in life are as important—and challenging—as choosing a career path. And, unlike in past generations, this is not a one-time event. Rather, it is a process that typically begins in one’s late teens and continues throughout life.
For high school students, we provide counseling and support throughout the college selection process. During the student’s junior year, we meet one-on-one with the individual to assess personality, likes and dislikes, career aspirations, and type of college and setting that is most likely to result in personal fulfillment and academic success.
During the college selection process, we administer the Strong Interest Inventory, one of the world’s most widely respected and frequently used career planning tools. It helps high school and college students—as well as people in transition—make fulfilling career choices. By comparing the individual’s results with those of people like them who have already found satisfying careers, the Strong assessment tool generates a list of the top 10 occupations students are most likely to find rewarding.
We also use the Myers-Briggs personality inventory to get a sense of how the client is “wired.” This information, along with the results of the Strong Interest Inventory and personal observation, help ensure that the client receives the guidance needed to make informed decisions.
Ultimately, our goal is to work with clients to select a college, a major and a career-life path that they can pursue with passion and commitment.
