Our Approach

As research has demonstrated repeatedly, the single most important factor in whether clients benefit from therapy is the nature and quality of the relationship between the client and the therapist. As such, we greet each client with a warmth and genuineness that is designed to put the client at ease and to establish a positive rapport. We both have calm, easygoing, and outgoing personalities, which allows clients to connect with us, to feel safe, and to be comfortable opening up about the issues they are facing.

We utilize a holistic, integrated approach that attends to the "whole person," recognizing the inter-connection between mind, body and spirit.  We believe that we all have a purpose for being, but that occasionally we get “off track.” Psychotherapy (which literally translates to “care of the soul”) is one way to discover a deep sense of meaning and purpose, and to begin taking steps toward living a more authentic, purpose-driven life.

We approach each client with an attitude of wonder, acceptance, empathy and unconditional positive regard. While we are supportive and encouraging, we also recognize that sometimes clients need to be challenged to change. This is why it is so difficult to change on our own. It often takes a close, professional relationship with a therapist to gain the insight and encouragement necessary to change.

We are passionate about our work and approach it with a high level of seriousness, professionalism and dedication. Yet, we are also aware that sometimes, even in the depths of despair, we cannot help but laugh at the human condition. Recognizing that laughter can be therapeutic, we do not hesitate to inject humor into our work, as appropriate of course. Therapy often involves sadness and tears, but it also can involve smiles and laughter.
